About Us
drinkaware.ie has emerged as the leading information portal on alcohol and drinking for consumers in Ireland.
The drinkaware.ie initiative was launched in November 2006. The overall aim of the initiative is to promote the responsible use of alcohol, while at the same time challenging anti-social drinking behaviours.
This website was developed by MEAS (Mature Enjoyment of Alcohol in Society Limited).
MEAS, the Irish word for respect, encapsulates a core value of our organisation, that alcohol must be respected, and when we consume it, we must respect ourselves and others.
MEAS was established in August 2002 by the alcohol manufacturers, distributors and trade associations of Ireland as an independent, not-for-profit company with no commercial purpose. Our aim is to undertake initiatives to combat alcohol abuse and misuse, with specific emphasis on underage drinking, the culture of drinking to get drunk, and drink-driving.
MEAS advocates moderation when drinking alcohol but does not recommend that abstaining individuals should consume alcohol to benefit their health. Consuming alcohol more than moderately increases the risk of both short- and long-term harm to health. We encourage you to consult your physician for any specialist advice.
