Dr Liam Twomey brings to Drinkaware over twenty years’ experience as a General Practitioner (GP) and thirteen years working as a member of the Oireachtas. Upon joining Fine Gael in 2004, he became the Opposition Spokesperson on Health serving in this role until he was elected to the Seanad in 2007 by the Cultural and Education Panel. During this time Dr Twomey was the Fine Gael Finance Spokesperson in the Seanad. After re-election as a TD in 2011, he served as Vice Chairman of the Oireachtas Joint Committee for Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform.
Following his retirement from politics in 2016, Dr Twomey returned to his general practice where he continues to work as a frontline GP in the community.
Dr Twomey believes in a pragmatic approach to reducing alcohol misuse and feels strongly that educating young Irish people on alcohol and its effects is crucial to changing attitudes and behaviours.
